San Angelo Firefighters Battle Blaze on Velma Street

At approximately 7:15 a.m. this morning, San Angelo firefighters responded to a structure fire at 708 Velma.

Owen said when firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a “fully engulfed residence,” so they made a defensive attack on the exterior of the structure.

He added that was until firefighters “knocked it down” to where firefighters could finally go inside and clear up what was left.

Owen said the attack was mainly from the exterior, and firefighters found windows and doors boarded up that impeded their access when they attempted to get into the interior, but for the most part, they fought the exterior.

The most damage appears to be in the right front, or A/B corner of the house, added Owen, so he assumes that’s where the fire started; however, the fire is still under investigation.

“I haven’t been to the interior of the house, so I can’t say for sure, but I believe that’s the living room area,” Owen said.

Owen also said the primary search of the home did not reveal anybody in the home, or any victims, and firefighters are in the process of doing a secondary and more thorough search of the home.

“Whenever that’s completed, I’ll have more information for you,” said Owen.
