The Grape Creek and Water Valley Volunteer Firefighters were called out Tuesday afternoon for a structure fire in the 10,000 block of West Grape Creek Road.
Not too long after their arrival, firefighters were able to get the fire under control with the assistance of a big water truck.
AEP is currently on scene assessing the damage.
This is a breaking story, and more information will be provided when available.
Update: 5:29 p.m.
Aaron Flint, chief of the Grape Creek VFD, said firefighters were called out to a structure fire at 4:20 p.m.
"We were first on scene in our command vehicle and we noticed flames and smoke on the northeast side of the structure," Flint said. "We had our crews go inside, but they didn't find [anything] inside the house. Most of it was on the outside, but there was a lot of heat in the attic."
Flint added that firefighters extinguished the exterior fire and then went in and pulled the ceilings inside because they knew something was burning. They were able to find the flames and got that extinguished as well.
"We were able to save most of the house and all the contents, Flint said.
At the time of the fire, no occupants were in the building. Some debris, old appliances and tools, stacked up on the northeast side of the house caused the fire, but the exact origins remains under investigation. Flint said AEP was called out to secure the utility lines to protect the firefighters. About a dozen firefighters were out at the scene, and they took about 10 to 15 minutes to get the blaze under control.
The damage of the home is at about 15 percent, Flint stated.
