At approximately 7:02 p.m. Sunday evening, the driver of a 2008 Honda Civic was pronounced dead after losing control of his vehicle in Knox County, said a Department of Public Safety press release Monday.
According to the release, Sebastian Barahana Rubi, 33, of Dallas was traveling west on U.S. Highway 82 when he lost control in a curve and went off the roadway into the south barrow ditch. The Honda struck a power pole on the driver side and then rolled into a field on the south side of the roadway. The vehicle finally came to a rest facing north on its roof.
DPS noted that Rubi was wearing his seatbelt, and his body was transported to Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Haskell.
Additionally, two passengers in the vehicle, Johnny Alexander Ordonez, 30, and Juan Rubi, 27, both from Dallas, were transported to Seymour Memorial Hospital and United Regional Healthcare System Hospital in Wichita Falls. DPS reported Ordonez to be in stable condition; he suffered non-incapacitating injuries. No injury information was available, however, for Juan Rubi. DPS stated that Ordonez wore his seatbelt, but Juan Rubi did not.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
