Former Ballinger Resident Charged With Shooting 4 People

STILLWATER COUNTY, MT — Former Ballinger resident Ty Turney has been arrested and charged with shooting four people, two of whom died, at a home in Montana on Monday, Dec. 8.

According to a press release from the Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office, officers received a report of a shooting at 3:37 a.m. Monday regarding a shooting at a residence.

When officers arrived, they discovered four victims with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene, while another died at the hospital. The other two were listed in critical condition.

Turney, 23, was arrested about two hours later after officers found his truck in the Stillwater River. He had apparently lost control of his vehicle and left the road.

Turney has been charged with two counts of deliberate homicide and two counts of attempted deliberate homicide.

There was no other official information available about the shooting.

According to a report in the Runnels County Register, a source believed Turney killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, and wounded the boyfriend’s parents.

Turney graduated from Ballinger High School and had a residence in the community as recently as 2023.

Turney’s father, Tommy, was a former city manager in Ballinger. He died of a heart attack in 2021.

Ty Turney is currently being held at the Yellowstone County Detention Center in Billings, Montana. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
