ODESSA, TX — A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with capital murder of multiple persons following a triple homicide at a North Odessa apartment complex Tuesday evening, according to the Odessa Police Department.
According to a report from NewsWest 9 in Midland, officers with the Odessa Police Department were called around 5:45 p.m. to the 87th Street Apartments on Hunter Miller Way for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, police found three people dead inside an apartment. The teen suspect was located shortly afterward and taken into custody at the Ector County Youth Center.
The Odessa Police Department said the teen had originally planned to shoot his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend outside her school, but instead went to her residence. Police said he entered the home and fatally shot her mother, 39-year-old Jessica Rodriguez, before shooting the girl's 9-year-old brother and 13-year-old sister. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Odessa American reported that Ector County District Attorney Dusty Gallivan is considering asking a juvenile court judge to schedule a certification hearing that will help determine if the boy should be charged as an adult, though no formal decision has been made at this time.
Police have not released the suspect’s identity due to his age.
The investigation is ongoing.
