Texas Women's Season Ended by South Carolina in Final Four

 

TAMPA, FL — The University of Texas women’s basketball team saw its best season in 22 years come to an end Friday in a 74-57 loss to South Carolina in the national semifinals.

Defending champion South Carolina will look to repeat against UConn in Sunday's title game.

The Longhorns were in the Final Four for the first time since 2003, and they were hoping to win their first national title since 1986.

Texas jumped out to a 19-18 lead at the end of the first quarter, and the Longhorns were within 38-35 at halftime.

The Gamecocks took control in the third quarter, however, outscoring Texas 20-9 to take a 58-44 advantage.

South Carolina put the game away in the fourth quarter as Texas never got closer than 10 points.

Texas finished its season with a record of 35-4. Three of their losses were to South Carolina, and the other was to Notre Dame.

South Carolina improved to 35-3. Texas handed the Gamecocks one of their only losses.

Texas was led by Jordan Lee with 16 points and Madison Booker with 11.

Te-Hina Paopao had 14 points to lead South Carolina.
