SAN ANGELO, TX — The Wall High School girls cross country team took third place at the Region I-3A meet in Lubbock on Tuesday to qualify for the UIL state meet.
The top four teams and top 10 finishers not on qualifying teams advance to the state meet Nov. 1-2 in Round Rock.
The Lady Hawks were paced by Mckenzie Lopez, who finished in 10th place on the two-mile course at Mae Simmons Park in 12:35.9.
Emma Reel was 17th, Dailyn Beam was 23rd, Ella Barnes was 71st, Nahla Cardenas was 75th, Bree Gallant was 89th and Kylee Holik was 107th.
Holliday’s Kenli Atwood won the race in 11:36.8. Holliday also won the team title, followed by Dalhart, Wall and Canadian.
Wall was 11th in the boys race and Brady was 23rd.
Holliday’s Noah Strohman won the race by more than 45 seconds with a time of 15:17.2.
Holliday won the team title, followed by Eastland, Jim Ned and Lubbock Roosevelt.
Blackwell, Garden City girls qualify for state
The Blackwell and Garden City girls cross country teams are headed to the state meet after they took second and third place, respectively, at the Region II-1A meet Tuesday in Grand Prairie.
Menard’s Danny Ruiz qualified as an individual with a second-place finish, along with her teammate, Taytum Chambless, in 13th.
Irion County’s Berkley Calloway also earned a trip to state with an eighth-place showing.
Blackwell was led by Kinley Cummings in sixth place, followed by Blakely Pritchard in 14th, Addison Dove in 15th, Jaquelyn Saxton in 29th, Avery Glenn in 47th, Brynlea Wojtek in 71st and Marlene Sanchez in 75th.
Garden City was led by Emily Schwartz in 20th, followed by Sadie Fuchs in 22nd, Claire Eggemeyer in 35th, Landry Baker in 40th, Sophia Sullivan in 41st and Melanie Gomez in 59th.
Eula won the girls team title. Jayton was fourth and had the individual champ, Jace Chisum (11:56.35).
Menard was eighth, Irion County was ninth, Eden was 17th and Lohn was 21st.
In the boys race, Bronte’s Colton Bilyeu was the area’s only state qualifier after a third-place finish.
Jayton won the team title, followed by Westbrook, Rankin and Munday.
Eula’s Hayden King won the race in 17:32.55.
