Concho Valley Athletes Punch Tickets To State Cross Country Meet

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Numerous Concho Valley athletes have qualified for the UIL State Cross Country Championships.

Regional meets for 2A, 4A and 6A schools were held Monday. The top four teams and top 10 individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to the state meet Nov. 1-2 in Round Rock.

The regional meets for 1A, 3A and 5A schools will be held Tuesday.

Mason had the best day of any area school Monday as its boys team won the Region IV-2A meet in Corpus Christi, while its girls were second in their division.

Mason’s boys team was led by Garrett Lindsay, who finished the 5,000-meter course in 17:57.33 for eighth place out of 160 runners.

Other Punchers included Cooper Ratliff in 10th, Caden Klingelhefer in 16th, Angelo Quintero in 31st, Irving Tavarez in 33rd, Sam Saminton in 72nd and Thomas Kruso in 122nd.

Junction’s Calixto Valencia was third in 17:39.49 and San Saba's Eric Yanez was 15th in 18:18.64 to qualify as individuals.

Mason’s girls were led by Elizabeth McFarland, who finished the two-mile course in 13:50.71 for 11th place.

Other Cowgirls included Emma McCrea in 27th, Hannah McFarland in 38th, Taylee Miller in 43rd, Kaitlin Daiva in 47th, Adalie Thomas in 54th and Annabell Marshall in 68th.

San Saba's Kelyn Yang was 15th in 14:01.94 to qualify as an individual.

Eldorado, Sonora boys qualify for state, along with Christoval girls

At the Region I-2A meet in Lubbock, the Eldorado and Sonora boys tied for second place to qualify for state, while the Christoval girls advanced with a fourth-place finish.

Reagan County’s Jordan Rodriguez was fifth in the boys race in a time of 17:12.8 to qualify as an individual.

Coleman’s Victoria Guerrero was third (12:25.2), Ballinger’s Matilda Galvan was fifth (12:39.2) and Miles' Kambry Schniers was 14th (13:10.3) in the girls race to earn their tickets to state.

Eldorado’s boys team didn’t have a top 20 runner but displayed remarkable consistency. The Eagles were led by Andrew McGee in 22nd, followed by Jaxon Hight in 26th, Ryley Hight in 33rd, Roman Guadarrama in 34th, Ryder Walker in 36th, Kevin Saucedo in 62nd and Ramiro Leija in 82nd.

Sonora’s boys were paced by Wyatt Killough in 10th, Tres Garza in 15th, Jaycob Ramirez in 20th, Justin Gonzalez in 52nd, Gavin Covarrubiaz in 58th, Angel Castilleja in 83rd and Kody Prather in 109th.

Reagan County’s boys finished in ninth in the team standings. Ballinger was 18th, Bangs was 19th and Coleman was 20th.

Christoval’s girls had two girls in the top 10 — Presley Polk in eighth and Kenadee Millican in 10th — followed by Kayleigh Pump in 38th, Sophie Nemec in 45th, Essence Bogs in 59th, Jae Thompson in 81st and Brynlee Carson in 94th.

Ballinger was ninth in the girls team standings. Coleman was 10th and Eldorado was 20th.

In the 4A division, San Angelo Lake View’s girls had a 19th place team finish.

Rickquael Bohannon led the Maidens in 109th, followed by Leala Leal in 111th, Juliet Ramirez in 125th, Keira Begay in 128th, Vanessa Soria in 131st, Emily Cantu in 137th and Alexa Gonzalez in 151st.

In 6A, San Angelo Central had two regional qualifiers. Cameron Hash was 121st in the boys race, while Naomi Bageant was 109th in the girls race.
