ARLINGTON— The NFL’s Top 100 list voted on by the players has finally been revealed and there are several Dallas Cowboys on the list.
The NFL Top 100 list is a list of players in the NFL voted on by other players for the most recent season and the upcoming season. It’s a fun way to spend the offseason wondering were certain players land and if they discuss if they are overrated or underrated.
There are seven Dallas Cowboys on the list ranking from the near bottom to the Top 10. Dallas is second to only the San Francisco 49ers in players that made the list.
- DeMarcus “Tank” Lawrence- 99
- Zack Martin- 68
- Trevon Diggs- 60
- Dak Prescott- 56
- Tony Pollard- 55
- Ceedee Lamb- 34
- Micah Parsons- 9
Starting from the near bottom, Demarcus Lawrence comes in at 99. Lawrence is one of the best run defenders in the NFL, but defensive ends are all about sacks, something “Tank” has been missing of late. Not to say Lawrence hasn’t been cleaning up as he ended up with six sacks. Lawrence, along with Parsons and the defensive line have really built up an identity on defense under defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
Martin is one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL and is a future Hall of Famer if he decided to retire right now. Ever since stepping on the field, Martin has been an All-Pro player. According to Sports Network hosted.stats.com, Martin has given up 12.5 sack in his entire career. He also had seven career holding penalties. Right now, Martin is not at camp and wants a new contract, something owner Jerry Jones seems reluctant to do, even though Martin might be the best player on the team.
Closing in on the middle of the list we have Trevon Diggs, who might give up a big play or might make a big play. After three interceptions his rookie season, Diggs blew up in the NFL and made hater fans keep a whole new stat, yards given up to a receiver, while Diggs had 11 interceptions his sophomore season. Yards do not equate to wins, points do, and when a corner gets the ball back for the offense, it makes life easier. The Cowboys just signed Diggs to a new contract, and he plays with what might be the best secondary in the NFL.
Dak Prescott is the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Which means the lights are always on and when he does something good, he’s the king. When he does something bad, cut him and move on. Prescott had a shortened year last season due to an injury and did throw an NFL leading 15 interceptions, even though all of those might not have been on him as several did bounce off receiver’s hands.
One thing is certain, Prescott is a leader, and no one has said anything different about him. The Cowboys follow him into battle on Sundays. He owns the NFC East where he is 27-7 against the Eagles, Giants, and Commanders/Football Team/Redskins. Now, there is talk about extending Prescott with a new contract, something rival teams should not be happy about.
Just above Prescott is the Cowboy’s new running back in Tony Pollard. Pollard has quietly gotten his work done and exploded last season as former Cowboy’s running back Ezekiel Elliott’s back up. Entering his fifth season, Pollard has 2,616 yards and 17 touchdowns. Just last season, Pollard had 1,007 yards and nine scores on the ground and 371 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Pollard is the guy for the Cowboys for at least this season as he signed his franchise tag. His burst and speed are deadly and will pair nicely with other backs Malik Davis and rookie Deuce Vaughn, whose father works for the Cowboys.
At 38, Ceedee Lamb makes his appearance. Lamb fell to the Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft and was the third receiver off the board. Just like Pollard, Lamb saw his workload expand last season as he became the go-to guy in the receiver room. Lamb has 260 receptions, 3,398 yards, and 20 touchdowns over his career in Dallas. He is extremely dangerous after the catch and has sealed several games for the Cowboys. Lamb signing a new contract will happen sooner rather than later as he is entering his fourth year with the team.
The last Cowboy to make the list, or the first Cowboy depending on how it’s viewed, is All-World linebacker/defensive weapon Micah Parsons. Like Martin, since Parsons stepped on the field at AT&T Stadium, he has kept offensive coordinators up at night. Parsons wasn’t just in the running for Rookie Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, which he won, but Defensive Player of the Year overall. He has been the runner up for DPOTY in both is NFL seasons. Parsons has drawn comparisons to some of the greatest defensive players to ever play the game like Lawrence Taylor, Bruce Smith, and Reggie White.
Last year, Parsons was in the Top 20 at 16, now he is nine and the second-best defensive player in the league after San Francisco 49er’s Nick Bosa. Since entering the league, Parsons has 26.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, 56 quarterback hits, and one defensive touchdown.
Right now, Parsons is arguably the best defensive player in the league and possible a Top Five player overall. The impact he has had on the Dallas defense has been immense. He has incredible closing speed, and an arsenal of pass rush moves. Dallas hasn’t had a player like Parsons since DeMarcus Ware. He is the leader of the defense and commands attention every snap of the ball. The Cowboys would be wise to get a contract done with Parsons as soon as possible because it is going to break records for a defensive player.
Those are the seven Cowboys to make the list.
