Here’s a quick look at all the teams Dallas will face this season.
Week 1 the Dallas Cowboys kick off the NFL season against the defending Super Bowl champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dak Prescott is returning from a horrific injury and the All-Pros along the offensive line are coming back as well. That’s all well and good but Tom Brady is Tom Brady and Tom Brady does Tom Brady type things.
Week 2 the Cowboys jump across the United States to play Los Angeles. The Chargers feature a young, good quarterback in Justin Herbert. Herbert played like a veteran last season putting up over 4,000 passing yards and 31 touchdowns. Don’t sleep on the Bolts defense because Joey Bosa is lurking along the defensive front.
Finally, in Week 3, the Boys are back in town. The quarterback drama is over and Jalen Hurts has emerged victorious. I don’t know if you would call being an Eagle a victory but I’m sure he’s happy. This is a division game and rookie wideout DeVonta Smith against Trevon Diggs could be a worthwhile matchup.
The Panther play Dallas in Week 4. Carolina has a new quarterback in Sam Darnold and he has more weapons now than he had when he played with the Jets.
This no doubt will bring back unpleasant memories as Dallas plays the Giants in Week 5. It’s actually one day short of a year when Dak Prescott broke his ankle. The Giants are getting Saquon Barkley back from injury and with Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator, Barkley is going to get carries. The Giants are another division opponent of the Cowboys.
Week 6 the Cowboys play the Patriots. The Patriots had a down year without Tom Brady at quarterback but just drafted Mac Jones. Never underestimate Bill Belicheck.
Coming off their Week 7 BYE the Cowboys play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8. Remember CeeDee Lamb’s insane touchdown grab in the Cowboys win last season? I'll provide a visual reminder for you.
In Week 9 the Cowboys play the Denver Broncos thankfully in Dallas. Playing at Mile High would’ve given the Broncos the elevation advantage.
Week 10 features a matchup from 2020. A weird kickoff that for some reason the Falcons just watched roll around in front of them ended up back in Dallas’ hands and secured a Cowboy victory. This game could have lots of local interest. Should he make the Falcon's squad, getting to see former Bobcat Eli Howard would make the 4 hour trip worth it.
Goodness gracious, Week 11 could be a shootout. The Kansas City Chiefs with their half billion dollar quarterback could shred the Dallas secondary. On the other hand, Prescott could also very well tear apart the Chiefs defense.
This is a short week for the Boys. Week 12 is the Thanksgiving game and they’ll only have 4 days to prepare for it. Luckly, it’s against the Raiders. When you think of Raider/Cowboys, the G.O.A.T., Jeff Heath, knocking the ball out of Derek Carr’s hand just before it crosses the endzone comes to mind. The Cowboys should also be providing the referees index cards just in case.
The next game has been the Thursday after Thanksgiving. The Cowboys play the Saints and this has left a sour taste for a while. The last time the Cowboys played New Orleans, the Saints won and didn’t score a touchdown. A sad reminder, the Cowboys did score a touchdown in that game and still lost.
The next three games feature the same opponent twice. All three are division games and last season, one of the matchups was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen Dallas play. The Washington Football Team (they don’t even have a mascot), I believe, is a quarterback away from being a serious contender. The Washington defensive line has 4 first round picks on it and they just drafted a first round linebacker. They have a very talented young receiver. Let’s see if Fitz-magic can get it done for them.
Sandwiched between the WFT games is a Giant game. Division games are always tough and three in a row is a gauntlet.
Week 17 the Cowboys play JJ Watt’s new team, the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals have given the Cowboys a hard time even when not playing in the desert. Allen High School’s Kyler Murray is throwing the ball to former Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Don’t sleep on Arizona.
Week 18 is the extra game the NFL added this offseason. The Cowboys will face their divisional foe the Philadelphia Eagles again.
No one team is miles ahead of the other in the NFC East. The division is wide open. 12-15 years ago they were sending 2 or 3 teams to the playoffs and now they’re playing like none of them want to go.
Honestly, if the Cowboys could ever execute on the same level as talent on the team, they'd be the favorites every year. The WTF is really only a quarterback away from being contenders. The Eagles are kind of a wildcard after having quarterback drama this past season and the Giants have gone through a couple of coaches in the past few seasons. It's already hard to win the the NFL and it's much more difficult to be successful when your leader keeps changing.
