KILLEEN, TX-- The Central Lady Cats downed the Killeen Ellison Lady Eagles 26-14 in a slugfest on the road.
Contrary to the run column, the two teams combined for just 28 hits with the Lady Cats tallying 25 of them.
Central opened the scoring with four runs in the first inning before allowing five in the bottom half of the inning.
Sydnie Gilbert kicked off a seven-run second inning with an RBI single to center field scoring Kaleigh Ochinang to tie the game. A two-run double by freshman Ashton McMillan plated Gilbert and Madi Stewart. Micaiah Howell would lay down a bunt the very next at-bat. A throwing error by the Ellison third baseman would enable McMillan and Bailey Fulps to score to make the score 9-5 Central. The Lady Cats would plate two more in the half inning.
Ellison would tack on four runs and narrow the Central lead to 11-9 after the bottom of the second inning.
Central would extend their lead to 15-9 and resume the scoring in the fourth inning with four runs highlighted by an RBI triple from McMillan.
Gilbert went 5-for-7 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and five runs scored. Stewart had two hits in seven at-bats with a team-leading four RBIs.
McMillan started the game in the circle, going one-and-two-thirds innings where she allowed nine runs on no hits with 11 walks and four strikeouts as well as no decision. Fulps came on in relief for five-and-a-third innings, allowing five runs on three hits with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts to her credit to get the winning decision.
The Lady Cats (13-9-2, 6-2) will travel to Copperas Cove on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.
