SAN ANGELO, TX — Scorching heat and minimal rainfall are forecast across West Central Texas for the Independence Day holiday weekend, with daytime highs reaching the upper 90s to low 100s and only a slight chance of showers by Sunday.
The National Weather Service San Angelo office said highs will hit the upper 90s to around 102 degrees Friday and Saturday under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. South winds of 10 to 15 mph are expected both days.
Sunday will bring slightly cooler temperatures in the mid-90s to around 101 degrees, with increasing cloudiness and a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Southeast winds will range from 5 to 15 mph.
Hot and dry conditions will persist through at least Friday, the NWS said. Low to medium chances for rain showers of 15% to 30% are possible Sunday through Tuesday in the extended forecast.
Typical summertime heat will continue across the region through the upcoming week.
Average highs for July 4 are 95 degrees in Abilene and 96 degrees in San Angelo, according to NWS climatology data. Record highs stand at 103 degrees in Abilene, set in 1971, and 105 degrees in San Angelo, set in 2024.
The NWS urged residents to stay well-hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning if possible, and wear light-colored clothing and sun protection during outdoor activities.
