Dove Creek VFD Contains Grass Fire on U.S. 67 South, Share Prevention Tips

SAN ANGELO, TX - The Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded Wednesday afternoon to a grass fire along U.S. Highway 67 South and quickly contained it to the roadside bar ditch.

The fire began around 3 p.m. when a trailer tire blew out and ignited dry grass, the department reported.

A member of Dunigan Oil Services assisted in stopping the fire from spreading before firefighters arrived, reducing the incident’s severity, according to the department.

Fire danger remains elevated in the area because of dry vegetation, high temperatures and gusty winds, the department stated.

To help prevent wildfires, officials urged residents to:

  • Avoid parking in areas with tall, dry grass.
  • Make sure trailer safety chains are properly secured.
  • Thoroughly inspect tires and wheel bearings before travel.
  • Use extreme caution with open flames, welding or any activity that could produce sparks.
  • Immediately report any smoke or fire.

The department thanked its volunteers and everyone who helped protect the community.
