SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo ISD has been fully approved to participate in the Teacher Incentive Allotment, joining hundreds of Texas school districts in recognizing and rewarding their most effective teachers with higher pay.
The approval comes as Governor Greg Abbott announced more than $750 million in new TIA funds this year — bringing the total distributed since the program began to more than $1.8 billion. The funding is being awarded to more than 65,000 teachers across more than 800 school systems statewide.
According to the official TIA map on tiatexas.org, San Angelo ISD is listed as a Fully Approved District. Several nearby districts in the Concho Valley and surrounding area — including Veribest ISD, Water Valley ISD, Bronte ISD, Ballinger ISD and Crockett County CCSD — are also shown as Fully Approved Rural Districts.
“Texas is blessed with teachers who have educated and inspired students for generations,” Governor Abbott said in the statewide announcement. “These incentive funds ensure that the best teachers are recognized for their efforts to improve the lives of their students.”
TIA was created to keep high-performing teachers in the classroom by offering clear pathways to significantly higher pay, including six-figure salaries in some cases. New research from Texas Tech University shows the program is working: districts that have implemented TIA are retaining their top teachers at meaningfully higher rates — with an approximate 20% increase in retention for the most effective teachers after three to four years. The same research found that students in these districts are seeing about one-third of a year of additional growth in both math and reading.
“Teachers are the single most important in-school factor that affects student outcomes,” said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath. “By rewarding our most effective teachers with pathways to stay where they’re needed most, students ultimately reap the reward.”
San Angelo ISD’s full approval means the district can now designate and compensate its highest-performing teachers through the state program. Participation in TIA across Texas has grown to 809 districts and partners for the 2025–26 school year, with more than 1,000 systems expected to participate by Fall 2026.
