SAN ANGELO, TX— The Salvation Army of San Angelo has opened its warming shelter all week long as an arctic front brings frigid temperatures and possible wintry precipitation to the Concho Valley.
The shelter at 122 W. 2nd St. is serving as a warming center, open nightly during cold-weather activations and during the day all week. It provides a warm place to stay, blankets and a safe environment for anyone needing refuge from the cold.
The National Weather Service in San Angelo warned of an incoming arctic front bringing temperatures into the teens and 20s late Friday night into Saturday night, with a 40% to 80% chance of a wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain and possible snow.
In addition to the Salvation Army shelter, several Concho Valley organizations are offering support during the extreme cold:
Concho Valley Community Action Agency: Utility and rental assistance, home weatherization programs, veteran assistance and homeless services.
MHMR Concho Valley: Supportive housing, housing placement, rental and utility assistance, and case management for those facing mental health or substance use challenges.
Concho Valley Regional Food Bank: Food distribution and emergency food boxes across multiple counties.
Area Agency on Aging of the Concho Valley: Cold-weather outreach and referral support for older adults.
