The Mayer Museum will also host a special Opening Reception for the exhibit on Nov. 4 from 5:30-8 p.m. in conjunction with the monthly "Night at the Museum" program. Other family-friendly activities that evening that are free and open to the public will include:
- Sculpture art project with the Kappa Pi artist fraternity
- STEM projects with the Tri-Beta biology honor society
- Experiments and an activity table with the Society of Physics Students
- Virtual Reality (VR) activities with the College of Science and Engineering
The "Constructed Landscapes" sculpture exhibit will then remain open for free public viewing in the ASU Mayer Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, each week through March 13.
Wright will also present a lecture about his exhibit on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 2-4 p.m. in Room 101 of ASU's Carr Education-Fine Arts Building at 2602 Dena Drive. The lecture is also free and open to the public.
Wright's sculpture work revolves around interpretations of landscapes and architecture, both natural and man-made, and encompasses a wide range of scales, from intimate tabletop pieces to impressive large-scale sculptures. Each surface is carefully crafted and shaped by hand, visibly bearing the marks of the artist's process. This attention to tactile detail invites viewers to engage with and explore the physical presence of the works.
Also an accomplished draftsperson, Wright produces graphite drawings on paper. These works are not direct depictions of his sculptures; rather, they present distinct scenarios and shapes that serve as a source of inspiration for his three-dimensional creations. The drawings and sculptures, though different in medium, are interconnected through shared visual ideas and conceptual underpinnings.
More details and examples of Wright's work are available on his website at anthonywright.com.
A native of New York, Wright has exhibited his art at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, the Longview Museum of Fine Arts and the Waco Art Center, and his sculptures and drawings are in numerous private collections nationwide. He holds a bachelor's degree from the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and a Master of Fine Arts from Texas Christian University. He now resides and maintains a studio in Fort Worth.
