UPDATE: Goodfellow to Fire Cannon Ahead of Change of Command Ceremony

SAN ANGELO, TX — Residents near Goodfellow Air Force Base can expect cannon fire both Wednesday and Thursday mornings this week as part of preparations and the official proceedings for the 17th Training Wing’s change of command ceremony, base officials said.

Cannon firings are scheduled for practice on Wednesday and again Thursday during the ceremony itself at the Goodfellow Parade Field. On Thursday, the cannon will fire at approximately 8:17 a.m. to signal the start of the event, with another round expected between 9:00 and 9:15 a.m. to mark its conclusion, according to the 17th Training Wing Public Affairs Office.

Base officials initially announced only a Thursday firing but issued updated guidance Tuesday morning confirming the additional practice firing on Wednesday.

The cannon fire signifies the beginning and end of official military ceremonies.
