Flood Response Prompts Donation Efforts; July 4 Event Postponed

SAN ANGELO — The United Way of the Concho Valley has announced a way for residents to help those displaced by flooding in San Angelo and Tom Green County.

A shelter for flood victims remains open at PaulAnn Church, 2531 Smith Blvd. Concho Valley Transit is providing transportation to the shelter; residents needing a ride can call 325-234-0251.

Emergency crews from the San Angelo Fire Department, San Angelo Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety continued door-to-door checks Friday to ensure no one remains stranded. Hundreds of water rescues have already taken place, officials said.

United Way officials asked residents not to drop off physical donations such as clothing or food at PaulAnn Church to avoid overwhelming the shelter. Instead, donors should call 325-949-3716 to arrange drop-off locations. Monetary donations can be made online at this link.

Flooding has forced changes to city operations and holiday plans. Friday’s trash pickup has been delayed to Saturday, July 5, weather permitting. The landfill is closed Friday.

The Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association postponed its Fourth of July fireworks show to Saturday night, citing safety concerns and thanking first responders. San Angelo’s Municipal Pool is also closed Friday due to flooding and weather conditions.

A follow-up press conference is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, July 4.
