SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo City Council will meet Tuesday to consider approving the May 3, 2025, election certification, which includes declaring Mary Coffey an unopposed candidate for Single Member District 6 and officially canceling that race.
The council will also review a $1.32 million proposal for upgrades to the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage.
The project, which is in its first phase, includes adding a production office, expanding the green room, installing new ADA-compliant ramps, and making other improvements.
Additionally, the council will consider an $84,783 contract with CC3 Construction Consultants for repairs at the San Angelo Regional Airport’s commercial terminal. The contract covers roof repairs, the addition of electric heaters to prevent pipe freezing, and cosmetic improvements to terminal arches.
Other agenda items include annexing 1,210 acres of land into the city, rezoning a property on North Chadbourne Street, and extending early voting hours for the May election.
Animal welfare advocates plan to protest outside the McNease Convention Center on Tuesday morning ahead of the San Angelo City Council meeting, voicing concerns over recent policy changes at the San Angelo Animal Shelter.
The demonstration, organized by Concho Valley PAWS, follows the shelter’s decision to ease intake restrictions to address the rising number of stray dogs, a move the nonprofit fears will result in increased euthanasia rates. A public meeting is scheduled for Monday evening to prepare advocates for the protest and upcoming council discussions. Organizers are calling for “ethical and moral policies” at the shelter and encouraging community involvement.
The meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive. Public comment will be allowed on non-agenda items, with speakers limited to three minutes.
