Southbound Traffic Allowed on Chadbourne Street Stretch as Work Continues

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Harris-to-College section of Chadbourne Street is now open to necessary southbound traffic, though crews remain active in the area and motorists are asked to travel through only as needed, according to a city construction update Friday. 

All concrete in that stretch is complete. Barricades will shift to southside parking lot driveways at the Harris intersection, including the church parking lot. Drivers may make U-turns or exit through the lot if needed. Lane striping will be added after the Harris intersection is finished. Parking striping will come later when thermoplastic is installed. Street lighting for the section will go in with the next phase of work. 

Work at the Harris intersection began ahead of schedule on Aug. 12. Blaine’s parking lot driveway is complete. Intersection corners are nearly finished, with ADA pavers installed and signal elements still to be completed. Sidewalk work has begun on the east side, and additional curbing and sidewalk tie-ins are expected in the next couple of weeks. Decorative star work in the intersection is set to start next week and take a couple of weeks. The intersection remains on schedule for completion the week of Sept. 21. Any delays will be announced. 

Between Beauregard and Harris, fencing is in place. Street lighting is on schedule for manufacture in October, with installation in the weeks that follow. Temporary striping will allow that section to open soon. 

Upcoming work at the College intersection will cover Gillis Street to about 150 feet east of the intersection and up to 40 feet north. Traffic will retain full access from the south up to College.
