ERCOT Issues Weather Watch as Freezing Temperatures Loom Over Texas

AUSTIN, TX — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has issued a Weather Watch from Feb. 19-21 due to forecasted extreme cold across the state, which could drive up electricity demand and lower grid reserves.

Despite the increased energy use expected, ERCOT said grid conditions should remain normal. A Weather Watch is not a call for conservation but serves as an advance notice that weather conditions may impact power usage.

ERCOT is monitoring conditions and coordinating with state agencies, including the Texas Energy Reliability Council and the Texas Department of Emergency Management, to ensure grid reliability.

Texans are encouraged to sign up for grid condition notifications via the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS) and check real-time updates at ercot.com.

The cold front is expected to bring the lowest temperatures of the season to multiple regions. While no immediate action is required, ERCOT advises consumers to stay informed on power supply and demand during the cold snap.
