Heat Warning: Furnace-like Heat Continues Baking West Texas

SAN ANGELO – Blistering heat will continue across the Concho Valley and all of West Texas again Tuesday as that Excessive Heat Warning continues through 9 p.m.

Dangerous heat will affect the entire area this afternoon and early evening as temperatures warm to 105 to 112 degrees. This will be the seventh day in a row where temps have topped 100 degrees with at least another two consecutive weeks in the forecast.

Monday's high temperature of 110 degrees broke a 115 year old record.  Expect more of the same in coming days.

Isolated late afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible for the next few days, mostly south and east of San Angelo.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon and this evening, mainly across the I-10 corridor. The main hazards will be dangerous lightning and strong gusty winds.

Thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night across much of the area. A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, mainly north and east of a Sterling City to Brownwood line. The main hazards will be damaging winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning. Thunderstorms are possible late Thursday afternoon and evening, mainly across the Big Country. The main concerns will be dangerous lightning and strong gusty wind.

Dangerous heat will continue across the area through much of the week. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion will be likely with any strenuous outdoor activity.

As always, never, ever leave a child or a pet in a locked car.  That is a crime.

As for outdoor pets, make sure they have plenty of shade, fresh water and food.  Check on elderly friends and relatives and stay indoors if at all possible during the hot afternoon hours.

This is a dangerous situation and can become life threatening if not taken seriously.
