Experts Warn of Intensifying Heat Monday Through Wednesday

SAN ANGELO – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo is expected to upgrade the Heat Advisory to an Excessive Heat Warning Monday as temperatures rise to 110 degrees.

A Heat Advisory has been in effect for the last several days as afternoon high temperatures soared above 100 degrees to the 104 to 106 degree range.  Those afternoon highs are forecast at 110 degrees Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heat stroke and heat exhaustion will be likely for anyone outdoors without plenty of water and shade.

Residents are urged to take this situation seriously.  Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, stay in the shade and wear a hat and gloves and long sleeves if possible.  Preferably, stay in an air-conditioned room.  Schedule outdoor activities in the morning or evening hours if possible.

Check on vulnerable neighbors and family.  Bring outdoor pets inside.  If you can't bring pets inside, make sure they have plenty of fresh water, food and shade.  Animal cruelty is a crime and neglecting outdoor pets in extreme heat is cruel.

And Never, Ever, under any circumstances, leave a pet or a child locked in a hot car.

There is a chance for some afternoon thunderstorms south and east of a Brownwood to Sonora line.  The main threat with those storms will be large hail, damaging winds and lightning.

There were some severe storms just south of San Angelo Saturday evening that caused high winds and blowing dust but very little rain fell in San Angelo with those storms.
