Heat Advisory Issued for the Rest of the Week As Triple Digit Heat Continues for 10 More Days

SAN ANGELO – Afternoon high temperatures will soar above 100 degrees each day for the next ten days across the Concho Valley and the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 8 p.m. Friday.

A Heat Advisory means the combination of high temperatures, low humidity and wind speed and direction create conditions hazardous to people, pets and plants.

Afternoon high temperatures will range from 102 to 105 degrees through Friday evening.  The weekend forecast also calls for afternoon high temperatures around 105 with temperatures above 100 degrees each day for at least the next ten days.  Expect the Heat Advisory to be extended or upgraded during that time.

Experts recommend you drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.

When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

And NEVER, EVER leave a pet or a child in a hot car, not even for a minute.  Suffocating to death in a hot car is one of the worst ways a child or a pet can perish.

This is a developing story and this information will be updated as new information or instructions are issued.
