SAN ANGELO – Record high temperatures and extreme wildfire danger will continue across all of West Texas through the end of the week and a Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Concho Valley Tuesday.
According to meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, record high afternoon temps above 100 degrees will combine with gusty southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph and relative humidity levels in the single digits to create extreme wildfire danger.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The most critical areas for potential wildfires are along and north of a line from Ozone to San Saba including the City of San Angelo.
Everyone working or spending extended time outdoors will need to take heat related precautions. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquids, stay hydrated, take frequent breaks and watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Experts warn that all outdoor burning is discouraged including grilling, hauling a trailer with safety chains and welding. ANY spark could cause an out of control and deadly wildfire under these conditions.
Expect daily advisories, alerts and warnings because of the ongoing dangerous heat wave and drought.
This is a serious situation and residents should be prepared to follow emergency instructions at all times.
