NWS: Winds Exceeded 60 mph During Last Night's Storm

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Severe weather is simply a fact of life in West Texas and last night's storm brought in winds that exceeded 60 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, winds speeds were recorded at 63 miles per hour and scattered storms hit the area. Sterling City and the City of Bronte also experienced similar weather conditions.

According to Meteorologist Michael Decker, some areas received up to half an inch of rain.

This is the first severe weather outbreak to hit the area after the freak winter storm last month left Texas covered in record-breaking snow.

As the weather begins to warm up, severe weather systems will become more prevalent in the area. According to Decker, a new storm system may reach the area late Tuesday night with a 40 percent chance of rainfall.

As a reminder citizens are urged to remain inside during severe weather. In case of a weather-related emergency, residents are reminded to seek shelter in the innermost part of their homes and avoid windows. Broken glass has accounted for a significant amount of injuries during severe weather episodes.
