Frozen Waffles Recalled from Walmart, Target Over Listeria Concerns

WASHINGTON — More than 500 varieties of frozen waffles sold at Walmart, Target, Aldi, and other major grocery stores have been recalled due to potential listeria contamination, according to TreeHouse Foods.

The Illinois-based manufacturer issued the voluntary recall after routine testing revealed the presence of listeria bacteria. Affected products were distributed under various brands, including Walmart’s Great Value, Target’s Good & Gather, and private label items sold by Food Lion, Kroger, and Schnucks. Other brands impacted include Kodiak Cakes, Simple Truth, and Foodhold.

No illnesses have been reported as of the recall announcement. Consumers are advised to check the UPC codes and lot numbers of their waffle packages and either dispose of the products or return them for a refund.

Listeria poses the greatest risk to the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with compromised immune systems. According to the CDC, symptoms of listeria infection include fever, fatigue, muscle aches, and more severe complications in vulnerable groups. Each year, approximately 1,600 people are infected with listeria in the United States, with 260 fatalities.
