SAN ANGELO, TX - A major recall has been issued for nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken and meat sold at popular retailers, including Walmart, H-E-B, Target, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, and other major outlets.
The recall covers hundreds of products due to possible contamination with listeria, a serious foodborne illness.
The contamination was traced to BrucePac of Woodburn, Oregon, which recalled approximately 5,000 tons of ready-to-eat products after routine testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) detected listeria in samples of poultry. The recall affects products made at the company’s Durant, Oklahoma facility, including grilled chicken breast strips and various other ready-to-eat items.
The USDA released a 326-page document detailing the full list of affected items, which includes ready-to-eat salads, chicken salads, wraps, and frozen meals. The products were sold at retailers nationwide, including 7-Eleven, H-E-B, Giant Eagle, Publix, Aldi, and more.
Consumers are advised to review the recall document and check with retailers to determine whether their recent purchases are affected. Listeria infections can cause severe illness, especially in vulnerable populations like the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, and, in severe cases, convulsions.
No illnesses related to the recall have been reported as of now, according to federal inspectors.
