MIDLAND, TX – The Midland ISD school board has officially chosen the new name for Robert E. Lee High School during a special meeting on Wednesday night.

According to MRT during the meeting the Midland ISD school board voted to change the name of Robert E. Lee High School to Legacy High School.
Legacy High School comes from the name Midland Legacy of Equality and Excellence High School. This name was recommended by a naming committee that was selected by the school board.
Legacy High School's mascot will remain the rebels although it will be a colonial rebel rather a confederate. The board has also decided to keep the Maroon and White color scheme for the school.
Robert E. Lee High School opened its doors 59 years ago. Since its beginning it has had many famous alumni. Actors like Tommy Lee Jones, athletes like Cedrick Benson, and influencers like former First Lady Laura Bush are just a few of those names.
The name change is final but the school district will continue using Robert E. Lee High School until the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
