SAN ANGELO, TX — A mistrial was declared Wednesday in the punishment phase of a fatal high-speed crash case after a Tom Green County jury deadlocked on sentencing.
Jeydan Zane Sanchez-Ayala, of Carlsbad, was 19 years old at the time of the crash. He pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of evading arrest causing death, with affirmative deadly weapon findings on all counts, in connection with an April 2025 crash that killed two San Angelo men.
After eight hours of jury deliberation in the 51st District Court, the jury found itself to be deadlocked, leading to the mistrial declaration.
A family member of one victim, speaking on condition of anonymity, said prosecutors have offered a plea deal of 10 years in prison and 10 years' probation. An update shared Friday afternoon by the source stated that Sanchez-Ayala is now being offered six years today.
The charges stem from an April 11, 2025, incident on U.S. Highway 87 south of San Angelo. A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to stop a white 2022 Dodge Challenger for racing another vehicle. Sanchez-Ayala fled, turning off the vehicle's lights, and reached speeds exceeding 110 mph before losing control, going airborne, and rolling near Wilde Road.

Passengers Jesus Manuel Silva, 18, and Matthew Allen Reyes, 20, both of San Angelo, were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Sanchez-Ayala was injured and hospitalized.
He was indicted in June 2025 and has remained out on bond. A new jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 9, according to the court calendar.
