Three Arrested in Large-Scale Copper Theft Operation in Ector County

ECTOR COUNTY, TX — Deputies with the Ector County Sheriff’s Office arrested three individuals early Wednesday morning in connection with a large-scale copper theft operation at Phoenix Drilling.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies encountered multiple suspects attempting to steal a large amount of copper wiring and other materials. When confronted, the suspects fled on foot, prompting the use of a drone equipped with thermal imaging and K-9 Sanuk to track them down.

K-9 Sanuk successfully located the suspects, leading to their apprehension. One suspect sustained a dog bite while resisting arrest and received medical treatment. Authorities identified the suspects as Savannah Dozier, Matthew Dozier, and Chelsea Harris.

All three have been charged with:

  • Criminal Mischief ($150,000-$300,000)
  • Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity
  • Theft of Aluminum, Bronze, or Copper

The suspects are being held at the Ector County Detention Center, and the investigation remains ongoing.

"We would like to remind the citizens of Ector County this is a great example of how technology and our K-9 units work together to ensure criminals are caught," the sheriff's office stated. "Copper theft is a serious issue that causes significant financial loss and safety hazards, and we will continue to take strong action against those responsible."

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office urges businesses and property owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help combat these crimes.
