Big Spring Shooting Leaves One Dead, Suspect in Custody

BIG SPRING, TX — A suspected road rage shooting left one man dead and another injured Wednesday evening in Big Spring, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim at the intersection of 14th and Goliad at around 5:50 p.m. They found Ricky Flores Mier, 38, deceased inside a white GMC Yukon. Another occupant of the vehicle, a 34-year-old man, had also been shot and was transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center before being flown to UMC Lubbock for further treatment. Authorities said he was expected to recover.

Witnesses told police that a small black car was involved in the shooting. Detectives later located a vehicle matching that description in the 600 block of East 17th Street and obtained a search warrant for the associated residence. Officers arrested 39-year-old Tony Magallanes.

Magallanes is charged with the murder of Mier and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the shooting of the surviving victim. Investigators believe the incident was a result of road rage and that the individuals involved were not previously acquainted.

The investigation remains ongoing.
