US 67 Shut Down Near Barnhart Due to Police Chase, Suspect Detained

 

BARNHART, TX – A vehicle pursuit in Irion County ended on the east side of Barnhart on Sunday afternoon, leading to a temporary shutdown of US Highway 67, according to the Irion County Sheriff’s Office.

Reagan County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted in the pursuit, and responded east on US 67 to support Irion County officers. Authorities were able to stop the vehicle and detain the suspect without incident, according to a report from The Big Lake Wildcat.

A video posted by The Big Lake Wildcat captured law enforcment attempting to de-escalate the situation, with law enforcement asking the suspect to surrender peacefully.

“We’re not going anywhere. We want to get you some help,” officers can be heard saying in the footage.

The Irion County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that US Highway 67 had reopened as of 3:47 p.m. 

Authorities have not released further details on the suspect or what led to the pursuit.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation.
