SAN ANGELO, TX – District Judge Jay Weatherby wasted no time Wednesday morning in dismissing a young male juror from the Christopher Wise murder trial in the Tom Green County Courthouse.
The judge found the juror had become "disabled" and exhibited "extreme distrust, anger, frustration, and confusion" after the first day of testimony including a police officer the juror allegedly had a problem with.
The jury was made up of eight women and six men including two alternates. Juror number eight had indicated he knew and had an issue with a San Angelo Police Officer who testified on Tuesday. The juror told the judge he could not be unbiased in the case because of the officer. District Attorney Allison Palmer argued that the juror should be dismissed because of his admission while Defense Attorney Gonzalo Rios told the court it would be "premature" to release the juror at this point.
Judge Weatherby ruled the unidentified juror had "clearly expressed" extreme distrust, anger, frustration, and confusion which met the standard for dismissing a juror during a trial. Juror 8 was replaced by Juror 13 and the state continued presenting its case in Courtroom D of the Tom Green County Courthouse.
