SAN ANGELO— Another teenager allegedly involved in the 19th St. drive-by shooting Thursday has been arrested.
Over the weekend, Tayden Thibodeaux was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for his alleged involvement in the crime. Now, Andrew Garza has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after the victim named him as one of the shooters along with Thibodeaux.
According to court documents, on August 3, 2023, San Angelo police responded to the intersection of 19th Street and Brown Street for a shooting incident. On scene, a woman who was involved said a dark colored BMW passenger car slowed down as it past them at the intersection and two individuals got out of the vehicle and opened fire at the woman and her passengers.
One of the passengers was transported to Shannon Medical Center and had lead bullet fragments removed from his head. This victim told the investigator that Greg and Zachary Garza were the two people who shot him. Both Garzas were arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon until the victim had been discharged from the hospital that he called the investigator and said that he made a mistake, and that Andrew Garza and Thibodeaux were the two individuals that opened fire at him.
Greg and Zachary Garza subsequently had the aggravated assault charges withdrawn.
Back at the scene, a camera was located, and the footage showed the dark colored BMW drive past the woman’s vehicle when two occupants exited the car, produced handguns, and opened fire.
A San Angelo Police Officer located a BMW matching the description at the 2400 block of Lillie Street. The investigator noted that Garza and Thibodeaux were in a vehicle that matched the vehicle seen in the camera footage and that both suspects were wearing clothing that matched what was worn by the two individuals that opened fire at the woman’s vehicle.
Garza was interviewed and said he was swimming at the Ben Ficklin low water crossing and was driving home with Thibodeaux and denied any involvement in the shooting at 19th and Brown Street.
Garza was arrested on August 7, 2023, and was booked into the Tom Green County Jail. He was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and currently has a $75,000 bond.
