SAN ANGELO, TX — An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting incident at the intersection of 19th St. and Brown St.
Tayden James Thibodeaux, 18, is facing charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for allegedly shooting a young man in the back of the head.
According to court documents, on August 3, 2023, San Angelo police responded to the reported shooting at the intersection of 19th St. and Brown St. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a woman whose vehicle had sustained heavy gunshot damage. The woman stated that she had picked up a female and three males, including the victim, from Nueva Vista Apartments located at 2401 Lillie Street.
The woman allowed the only male she knew to drive her vehicle. They headed south on Brown Street and stopped at a stop sign. A passenger vehicle, carrying multiple individuals, turned from 19th Street onto Brown Street. As the vehicle passed the woman's car, shots were fired at her vehicle.
The victim, a young man, was struck by gunfire and taken to Shannon Medical Center. Bullet fragments were removed from the back of his head during medical treatment. Initially, the victim identified two individuals, Zachary Garza and Greg Garza, as the shooters. However, after his discharge, he called investigators to correct himself, indicating that it was actually Thibodeaux and Andrew Garza who had shot him.
Surveillance footage from a camera on the 1900 block of Brown Street revealed a dark-colored BMW passing the woman's car before stopping. Two occupants of the BMW, one of them appearing to be Caucasian, fired handguns at the woman's car.
An officer later spotted a BMW on the 2400 block of Lillie Street with Thibodeaux as the driver and Andrew Garza as the passenger. During an interview with Thibodeaux, he denied any involvement in the shooting incident and claimed to have been swimming at the Ben Ficklin low water crossing before driving home with Garza.
Thibodeaux was taken into custody and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on August 4, 2023. He faces a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Thibodeaux was released on $75,000 bond on August 5, 2023.
