Midland Couple Arrested for Murder of Infant Child

MIDLAND – A Midland couple has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection to the death of their one-month-old infant.

According to reports, Midland police officers responded to Midland Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 10, regarding an injured infant. Hours later, the child was pronounced dead.

Sarah Gilley-Wroe and Byron Brown were arrested on Wednesday, May 11 and charged with capital murder.

Now, according to an arrest affidavit, a detective responded to Midland Memorial Hospital on May 11 regarding the 1-month-old infant with multiple skull fractures and a brain bleed.

The detective spoke with the Wroe, who said the dog jumped on the child a few days ago, which eventually turned into “a week or two ago”. Wroe alleged the dog, a 30 lbs. mastiff/lab, had put its paw on the infant’s head.

The court document reads:

“There was no other explanation for the child to have left and right parietal bone fractures and multifocal intracranial bleeding likely epidural hematoma of the left frontal hemispheric convexity.”

Byron Brown spoke with the detective and said he was looking for another apartment at the time of the incident. Brown said he called Wroe who did not answer the phone but did call back quickly saying something was wrong with the infant and that the child was not breathing. Byron rushed home and called 911.

Brown allegedly told the detective that emergency personnel said nothing was wrong and left. EMS was called back due to the infant not breathing and now unresponsive.

The infant was then taken to the hospital and died at approximately 5:00 a.m. on that Wednesday. The body was sent to Dallas County for an autopsy where it was concluded that cause of death was homicide.

Byron Brown is being held on $1,000,000 bond. Information regarding Sarah Gilley-Wroe and her mugshot are not available at this time.
