Brady Motel Murder Suspect Freed After No Bill by Grand Jury

 

BRADY, TX — A McCulloch County man accused of murder is free today after a grand jury no billed his charges. The grand jury believed the man accused, Eric Daniel Flores, 43, of Brady acted in self defense.

Shortly after the incident on January 9, 2022 at 2:30 a.m., the Brady police reported that Flores was arrested in connection with a stabbing of a 51-year-old man named Douglas Wayne Morton.

That morning, Morton was found lying near his motel room suffering of several stab wounds in his upper torso. He was rushed to Heart of Texas Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead by County Judge Frank Tull.

Police investigated the incident where Flores was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

During the police investigation, video surveillance footage was uncovered that showed Morton being stabbed.

From viewing the video, the grand jury decided that Morton was the aggressor as he chased Flores around a dumpster behind HiWay Motel, W Grove St. in Brady, while holding a knife.

Video evidence was used to determine that Morton attempted to stab Flores multiple times. During the altercation, Flores obtained the knife from Morton. Flores then stabbed Morton. Morton stumbled backwards but then returns trying to attack Flores again. Flores then stabbed Morton several times which eventually resulted in his death.

The grand jury instructed the sheriff to release Eric Daniel Flores from jail.
