Border Patrol Agents Catch Illegal Aliens with Loco Weed

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents halted a narcotics smuggling attempt and apprehended several illegal aliens northwest of Laredo.

The incident occurred during the evening of August 26, when agents responded to several individuals carrying bundles at a ranch near Mines Road.  Agents apprehended four individuals and seized five bundles of marijuana.

The bundles had an approximate weight of 504.34 pounds with an estimated street value of $403,472.  The contraband and investigation into the case were subsequently turned over to Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The term 'Loco Weed' used in the headline comes directly from an unclassified document from the DEA. The term 'illegal aliens' is used daily in written communications from the Customs and Border Protection agency.

Even with the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector continue to secure the Nation’s borders and prevent the smuggling of drugs.  The Laredo Sector is made up of agents who continue to meet the enduring mission priorities of the agency to counter terrorism, combat transnational crime, secure the border, facilitate lawful trade and travel while protecting revenue.
