Former Monahans Police Officer Sentenced to Federal Prison for Lewd Images of a Minor

MIDLAND, TX – Former Monahans police officer Marshal Lacy Hobbs, 36, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison yesterday on a child pornography charges.

Hobbs initially pleaded guilty to the charge on December 19, 2019, but was sentenced in Midland on May 13, 2020.

Court records indicate Hobbs communicated with a female who was under the age of 18 years old via social media and knowingly received multiple sexually explicit videos including pictures of the minor.

Due to the fact that  Hobbs was a resident of Andrews, the Andrews Police Department and the Texas Rangers investigated the case.

Additionally, Hobbs was ordered to pay  $30,000 in fines as well as a $5,000 assessment under the Amy and Vicky Child Pornography Victim Restitution Improvement Act and a $5,000 assessment under the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.

When Hobbs completes his prison term he will  be placed on supervised release by order of U.S. District Judge David Counts.

Previously, Hobbs was released on bond prior to the sentencing, but was later taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service in order to begin serving his prison sentence.

U.S. Attorney Bash stated, “When an officer who has sworn to protect his community instead decides to target a child for exploitation, we will be relentless in seeking justice. I am pleased with the sentence imposed today”.
