WATCH: Five People Shot in Hail of Gunfire at Illegal Party

FORT WORTH, TX –  Five people were shot during a party at a Texas park that drew in a crowd of roughly 600 people despite local guidelines prohibiting large gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The "shootings" happened Sunday evening just before 7:00 p.m. at the Village Creek Park in Fort Worth, Texas police said. According to Fort Worth Police Information Officer Buddy Calzada fireworks were set off, and then witnesses in the area reported hearing roughly 30 or so rounds of gunfire. A video clip that was posted inline shows a large crowd of people frantically clearing the scene as shots rang out in the background.

In a news briefing later Sunday evening, Calzada indicated three of the victims were in critical condition and two others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

 Many businesses have reopened since Texas’ stay-at-home order expired on May 1,  however many state and local authorities continue to discourage large gatherings to further contain the spread of coronavirus. “We try to work with everybody to try not to cite them or ticket them, but ultimately people have a choice and that’s the choice they made tonight,” Calzada said.

The Fort Worth Police Department’s gang unit is currently leading the investigation as many State and Federal agencies assist in locating any suspects involved.
