Suspect Charged with Attempted Capital Murder After Fight with Police

 

MIDLAND, TX – Thirty-two-year-old Javier Arturo Garza Jr. has been arrested after he was involved in an altercation with a Midland officer. Garza is charged with attempted capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

According to CBS7, Midland PD officers were dispatched to the Days Inn Motel on Thursday morning for a report of an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw Garza standing near a white pickup truck. Garza refused to comply with the instructions provided by the officers and started a fight.

Garza then got into the white truck while grabbing and holding on to the officer. Officers said Garza then put the truck into drive and accelerated. Garza let go of the officer and the officer fell to the ground. The officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

During a search of the area, officers located Garza at the 3700 block of Anetta Drive. No information has been released regarding the initial incident.
