Mother Seeks Justice for Daughter Assaulted On School Bus

EARLY, TX– The mother of the Early ISD student who fell victim to a sexual assault while on a school bus in February says she's upset over not only what police say happened to her 9 year old, but how the district has handled the incident thus far. The mother of the victim, Jessica chose to identify without showing her face or using her last name, said she wants answers for how her daughter has been violated.

In a previous statement, Early police state the bus driver was helping a handicapped student get on the bus on Feb. 6 when a 10-year-old boy allegedly sexually assaulted Jessica's 9-year-old daughter.

"What happened to her doesn’t happen — it’s not supposed to happen to kids," said Jessica. "It’s definitely not supposed to happen from another kid.”After the third grader told her parents what happened, the family immediately drove to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, where a nurse examined the victim for signs of sexual assault.“In the moment you’re numb -- you can’t do anything," said Jessica. "And you don’t want to believe it.”

In the weeks following the assault, Jessica said she's tried to find out what exactly happened to her daughter.

On Tuesday, Early ISD Superintendent Wes Beck  sent a letter home to parents, stating that "steps have been taken to assure we have no more incidents like this on our busses." Jessica believes the school should have notified parents sooner since the incident allegedly happened a month ago.

So far the family of the victim has stated that they have hired a lawyer and are planning to seek justice for their daughter.
