Police: 17-Year-Old Killed Over Reefer Deal Gone Bad

MIDLAND, TX – New details have emerged regarding the shooting that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Robert Duncan. According to authorities, they believe Duncan was going to sell marijuana to a group of teens who then stole it and ran away.

According to CBS7, arrest affidavits show that when the Midland Police Department began looking for Duncan on Friday, Dec 27, they were told by his acquaintances that he was fine.

Just three days later the same acquaintances that had claimed Duncan was okay, recanted their story and led officers to County Road 1230. They alleged Duncan had been shot as a result of a drug deal. Police reports show that Duncan was shot twice.

They told authorities that after the group of teens stole the marijuana Duncan started to chase them and then gunshots rang out. The group never saw Duncan again.

Following the information they had been provided, Midland County Sheriff’s Office and Midland Police Department began looking for the teens who were going to purchase the marijuana. As a result of their investigation, they identified and interviewed Larry West, Zayden Hayes, and Rogelio Cadena.

The teens decided to steal the marijuana and after Duncan began chasing them he was confronted by Hayes, who had a firearm owned by Rogelio Cadena.

After shooting Duncan the three teens returned to Cadena’s home and Cadena reportedly disposed of their weapons.

According to police the evidence found at the scene corroborated the statements given by Hayes, West, and Cadena. The teens were charged and arrested.
