WATCH: How Was Cop Car Stolen in Plain Sight in Ozona?

SAN ANGELO, TX — There are unconfirmed reports this afternoon that a police vehicle was stolen in Ozona, which is in Crockett County, southwest of San Angelo.

This video explains most of what happened (warning: language):

When we called the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, the person answering the phone there said the sheriff will have to answer our questions. He took our phone number, but said, “The sheriff probably won’t be calling you back.” (eds. note: Later that person called us back and said the sheriff will be providing information after the investigation reveals more information. "I didn't mean to sound like that, maybe we got cut off," he said.

A concerned stepmother of Ashtyn Kugle called us from Abilene this afternoon. “I think my daughter stole a cop car in Ozona,” she said. “I don’t know if she is dead or alive.” The mother’s name is Charlene Kugle.

Charlene said Ashtyn, who is only 19, just completed a prison sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. “She was in a halfway house in Midland,” Charlene told us. “That’s probably how she’s down there in Ozona.”

The Crockett County Sheriff’s office, whose markings are seen on the SUV Interceptor vehicle driven by a young woman, remains mum about how this happened or what the status is of the suspect who stole the cop car.

Every other law enforcement agency in the Concho Valley and Permian Basin has a Facebook page in the interest of keeping the public informed...even our volunteer fire dept. posts regularly about accident/fire runs. Crockett County Sheriffs Dept. does not and will not have a Facebook account. They are the least transparent law enforcement agency in the entire region...why, do you suppose, that is? This was the Chief Deputy's vehicle. Mention CCSO to any LEO in the region and you will get a sneer or a full on belly laugh...most corrupt bunch of clowns in the business.

I'm pretty sure the chick got a weapon that was in the Sheriff's Tahoe she stole and killed herself with it.......

You're not going to see SanAngeloLive update this with any reporting, but if something happens in Odessa, Big Springs or Brownwood, you'll get all sorts of Live reports to their news stories............
