DPS Trooper Shoots, Kills Machete-Wielding Man in Llano

LLANO, TX-- A man wielding a machete was shot and killed by Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers on Sunday morning in Llano according to the DPS.

Llano Police and DPS responded to a call of a person barricaded in a trailer at 600 Bessemer Ave. around 6:15 a.m. Hill Country Scanner reporter Tom Suarez was on scene and told KXAN the incident began after the suspect got into a knife fight at J&D's RV Roost, where it's believed he was squatting.

When law enforcement got on scene, the suspect proceeded to barricade himself inside the RV, according to the Hill Country Scanner.

Llano County Sheriff's deputies, Llano PD and DPS troopers then began to take down wooden planks to gain access to the trailer. Suarez said that the suspect then came out of the trailer swinging the machete at law enforcement.

Shortly after that, Suarez saw the suspect get shot in the eye and die immediately on scene. The fire department was called to spray the trailer in an attempt to get the suspect out, but he had been shot by the time they arrived.

The other man in the knife fight reportedly had cuts on both arms that required medical attention, Suarez said.

Bullets and water are costly, and surely worth more than the life of a machete wielding squatter.

A gas can of accelerant applied liberally atop the roof and perimeter of the trailer would've nipped this in the bud. Toss a match, watch the human hotdog ineffectually swing at the flames for a few minutes and call it a night.

Happy New Year San Angelo!
