DPS Report: Latin Kings Dominate San Angelo Streets

SAN ANGELO, TX-- A number of gangs have been reported in Texas, but in Tom Green County the number one gang is the Latin Kings according to a recent report by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Department of Public Safety Wednesday released an article titled "Texas Gang Threat Assessment." This was a detailed report depicting the gangs of all kinds in Texas as well as how the strategies law enforcement organizations are using to combat these dangerous groups.

The most significant gangs in West Texas for 2018 include Barrio Azteca, Bloods, Crips, Gangster Disciples, Sureños, Chuco Tangos and the West Texas Tangos.

The majority of reported gang activity in West Texas occurs in El Paso and Midland Counties. Officials report Chuco Tango and West Texas Tango have the highest presence in El Paso and Tom Green Counties. Other significant gangs active throughout the region include Latin Kings , Aryan Brotherhood of Texas and Aryan Circle. While Aryan Brotherhood of Texas and Aryan Circle have limited to no presence in El Paso County, there is a documented presence of members in Ector, Midland, and Tom Green Counties. The highest number of identified Latin Kings in West Texas are located in Tom Green County.

The Latin Kings are the second highest in the rankings of how threatening each gang is.

Most of the arrests of these gang members are assault, but also include kidnapping, robbery, sexual assault, and homicide.

The Texas Violent Gang Task Force, the Texas Gang Investigators Association, and the Texas Anti-Gang Centers are some of the organizations put together to prevent, intervene, suppress, and prosecute gangs across the state. They have all together made over 9,000 gang related arrests this year, and plan to continue this trend in 2019.
