Odessa Police Warning Public about Man Impersonating a Police Officer

 

ODESSA, TX — (Press Release) On Aug. 11 at approximately 8 ;00 p.m., Odessa Police responded to the 1600 block of North County Road West in reference to a subject impersonating a police officer. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the 46-year-old complainant, who advised that while she was parking her vehicle in the Dollar General parking lot, she was approached by a male subject occupying a white Ford Ranger pickup.

The male subject advised the complainant that he was an undercover cop. The male subject then asked to see the complainant’s driver’s license, registration and insurance. The male subject then took the complainant’s driver’s license and left the scene in the white Ford Ranger without saying anything else to her.

The complainant was unable to see the suspect’s license plate number and never saw any emergency lights on the Ford Ranger. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 30’s, wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, approximately 5’3” and weighing approximately 150 pounds. Anyone with information in reference to this investigation is encouraged to contact Odessa Police or Odessa Crime Stoppers and reference Case #18-33156.

If there is ever any doubt, citizens are encouraged to call 9-1-1 to verify whether or not the traffic stop is legit. Citizens can request to see the officer’s badge or police identification card. Citizens are also encouraged to stop in well-lit, populated areas and should never exit their vehicle or give any documents to anyone who has not provided identification.
