SAPD Conducts First Day of School Traffic Enforcement Operation

 

SAN ANGELO, TX --Yesterday, the San Angelo Police Department’s Traffic Section conducted a School Zone Traffic Enforcement operation utilizing LIDAR.

Police issued a total of forty-three (43) citations during the operation, which ran from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m.

A breakdown of the citations are as follows:

  • Driving While License Invalid: 1
  • Other/Misc. Violations: 9
  • No Insurance: 4
  • No Seat Belt: 2
  • Speeding: 27
  • Stop Sign: 2
  • Warnings: 4

Following the School Zone Operation, additional LIDAR Traffic Enforcement was conducted in the westbound lanes of the 1700 block of East Houston Harte until 11:00 a.m.

Officers issued a total of fifty-five (55) citations during the operation.

A breakdown of the citations are as follows:

  • Fail to Change Lanes/Slow While Passing Emergency Vehicle: 5
  • Speeding: 38 (Highest speed 84 MPH)
  • Other/Misc. Violations: 10
  • No Insurance: 2
  • Warnings: 6

As a reminder, the Texas Transportation Code requires drivers nearing stopped emergency vehicles with lights activated to change lanes or slowdown by 20 MPH below the speed limit.  Failing to take these actions endangers personnel who provide critical and life-saving services.
