SAN ANGELO, TX - Christopher Salmon, 28, accused of a first degree felony for aggravated robbery of the CVS at 318 West Beauregard back in April, pleaded guilty this afternoon, and will spend five years behind bars.
The honorable Judge Barbara Walther of the 51st Judicial District presided over the plea hearing. She started by explaining to Salmon the severity of the charges associated with aggravated robbery. The sentence, she explained, can range from 99 years to life in prison, with a fine exceeding no more than $10,000.
Walther explained, by taking this plea bargain, Salmon was forfeiting his right to a jury trial, state witnesses, and his right to remain silent. She then asked if he understood his actions.
"Yes, your honor," Salmon responded with a positive and confident demeanor.
The State set the plea bargain at five years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional facility with no fine or restoration being applied to the sentence.
"Is this how you understand the plea bargain, sir?" Judge Walther asked Salmon.
After Salmon acknowledged the sentencing, Walther asked if Salmon was pleading guilty without being influenced or forced by anyone.
"No, I'm pleading guilty under my own conversion," Salmon said. Conversion is another term for taking property that doesn't belong to the person committing the act.
Salmon has been in custody since April 26, 2016, the day of the robbery, and will receive jail credits up to today's plea hearing.
